NES
Need to Evaluate Scale - deutsche Fassung
Short abstract
The NES is a translation of 16 items of an English-language scale whose development goes back to Jarvis and Petty (1996). It is intended to measure the need and basic willingness of individuals to make evaluative judgements about objects of attitudes. The 16 items are divided into two subscales: (1) Need to evaluate (k = 7) and (2) Need to be neutral (k = 5). Reliability: Cronbach's alpha was alpha = .60-.70. Validity: It was examined how valid the NES records the willingness of individuals to make evaluative judgements on objects of attitude. In this respect, exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were carried out, which provided indications for the internal validity of the overall scale and the internal consistency of the two partial scales. The correlations to the individual additional scales as well as to the age and gender of the persons examined served as indicators for the external validity. Weakly positive correlations were found with Need for Cognition (NFC), Faith in Intuition (FI), Self Value (SWG) and Self Effectiveness (SWE).
