FAM
Fragebogen zur aktuellen Motivation
Short abstract
The FAM assesses current learning motivation and is used to measure learning and performance situations. It consists of four scales (fear of failure, interest, probability of success, challenge) with a total of 18 items. Starting point for the test design was an examination of the learning situation on the computer. Reliability: The internal consistencies according to Cronbach ranged between alpha = .66 and alpha = .90. Validity: The factorial validity was checked and resulted in a four-factor structure with 58.4 % explanation of variance. Rheinberg and colleagues (2001) report that current motivation correlates with later learning behaviour and learning performance. Differences in mean values and correlations were found for different types of tasks and learners. In addition, the test authors were able to demonstrate that the factors challenge and interest can predict performance, but these depend on the learning task and the number of learning sessions. Calculations of scale intercorrelation showed high correlations, contrary to the assumption of independence of the four factors.
