NEI-VFQ
National Eye Institute Visual Function Questionnaire - deutsche Adaptation
Short abstract
The NEI-VFQ represents the visual impairments relevant to everyday life of patients with a wide range of eye diseases. The original American version NEI-VFQ-25 (Mangione, Lee & Hays, 1996) was developed using focus groups. It consists of 39 items and the following 12 scales: (1) General state of health, (2) General vision, (3) Eye pain, (4) Near vision, (5) Far vision, (6) Social functioning, (7) Mental well-being, (8) Exercising social roles, (9) Dependence on others, (10) Driving problems, (11) Television, (12) Peripheral vision. Reliability: Reliability (according to Cronbach's Alpha) lies between Alpha = .58 (scale 3) and Alpha = .92 (scale 9). Validity: The validity of the German version has been confirmed by correlations with the questionnaire on health status (SF-36; Bullinger & Kirchberger, 1998).
