Fragebogen zur Wahrnehmung der Psychologie als Wissenschaft
Short abstract
The EBI-AM is used to record discipline-specific epistemic convictions. The theoretical basis is the development stage model of epistemic beliefs of Kuhn and Weinstock (2002). The test is designed as a group test and includes two scales: (1) Absolutism = scientific knowledge as objective "facts". (2) Multiplism = scientific knowledge as subjective "opinions". Reliability: Three studies showed values between Cronbach's alpha = .66 and .72 for absolutism and values between alpha = .61 and .72 for multipleism. Validity: In order to test convergent validity, relationships were established in different samples between the EBI-AM and (1) the CAEB (Stahl & Bromme, 2007; r = -.18 to -.45 for absolutism, r = .23-.51 for multipleism), (2) the German short scale 16-NCCS (Schlink & Walther, 2007) and (3) the individual study progress (in years). In addition, one study showed a hypothesis-compliant positive correlation between absolutism and the need for cognitive unity. Finally - again in two studies - there were negative correlations between multipleism and study progress (in years).
