SWE-IV-16
Skala zur Erfassung der Informationsverhaltensbezogenen Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung
Short abstract
The SWE-IV-16 measures skill-specific self-efficacy beliefs in adolescents and adults with regard to information behaviour and is intended to analyse their interrelationships with "objective" information competencies measured by means of performance tests. The method is based on the descriptive process model of information problem solving by Brand-Gruwel et al (2009). It comprises 16 items. Reliability: The alpha values according to Cronbach were above .85 in all samples. For the retest correlation over periods of six to 18 months, values of rtt = .47 to rtt = .70 were obtained. Validity: The structural validity of the SWE-IV-16 is supported by the findings of a confirmatory factor analysis of the data from the three design samples (N = 305), in which a one-dimensional model shows an acceptable fit. In terms of convergent validity, correlation statistical findings show moderate correlations with other self-efficacy and self-concept scales as well as low but significant correlations with self-reports on subject-related information literacy and with a performance test on subject-related research knowledge.
