STSE
Scale for Teacher Self-Efficacy - deutsche adaptierte Fassung
Short abstract
The STSE is the German adaptation of the Teacher's Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES; Tschannen-Moran & Woolfolk Hoy, 2001) and is used to measure teacher self-efficacy. It consists of three scales with 4 items each: (1) instructional strategies, (2) class management and (3) student motivation. Reliability: Cronbach's alpha for the subscales lies between alpha = .68 and alpha = .94. The reliabilities of the latent constructs of the subscales lie between r = .71 and r = .94. Validity: Confirmatory multi-group factor analyses and calculations of measurement invariance show a good fit of the expected three-factor structure and equivalent measurement characteristics for all groups. In addition, convergent validity could be demonstrated by correlations with other constructs (e.g. general self-efficacy: r = .49-.51, r = .35-.45 with the STSE subscales) and study satisfaction (r = .15 to .37 with STSE total, r = .19-.35 with the STSE subscales). Furthermore, it could be shown that teacher self-efficacy increases with positive practical experience and that the tendency to drop out of a course decreases with an increase in teacher self-efficacy.
