Skalen Impulskontrolle, Überwinden von Widerständen, Ablenkungen Widerstehen
Short abstract
The scales Impulse-Control, Overcoming Inner Resistances, Resisting Distractions (German Abbreviation: IK-ÜW-AW) are intended to show various forms of perceived self-control requirements at work. The questionnaire is based on the model of self-control (Muraven & Baumeister, 2000). It contains 15 statements. Reliability: Cronbach's alpha was alpha = .87-.91. Retestreliability over six or 24 months was between rtt = .57 and rtt = .68. Validity: A three-factor model could be found by means of confirmatory factor analyses. The ecological validity and sensitivity of the scale are supported by the fact that nursing staff for the elderly reported higher requirements for impulse control than employees of state and local administrations. It was possible to find correlations in line with expectations between all three scales and the extent of qualitative and quantitative workloads, ambiguity facets of work and relieving activity characteristics. In addition, positive correlations at medium levels with numerous measures of psychological stress experienced could be demonstrated (e.g. MBI, BDI, scale "fear of state" from STAI). The IK-ÜW-AW correlate with self-reported musculoskeletal complaints). Stepwise multiple regression analyses showed that the scales IK and ÜW contributed beyond sociodemographic measures (age, gender) and the degree of workload to the prediction of the stress experience. Persons with high RoW and AW values had a higher number of days absent from work and more frequent absences.
